13 Days of Love: Day 1 Hunger Games

In future America, states are no longer states but instead Districts, twelve to be exact. The 13th District rebelled years ago, hence the reason for the Hunger Games. Created as a reminder/punishment, every year a boy and girl from each District are chosen to participate in the Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games is a televised kill or be killed, all out battle to be the last person alive. While some participants are trained from birth, most are not and view the games as nothing more than a death sentence.

When Katniss’ younger sister’s name is drawn, Katniss volunteers to go instead. To complicate matters (remember, only one person wins) Katniss begins to fall for her District 12 partner, which only complicates matters  even more because she is also somewhat in love with her hunting partner from home…

In the end will it matter who she loves or if she will even be around to love someone and have them love her back?

As an aside, I absolutely loved this book! It is addictive…oh hello staying up to 3 am to finish it. The developing relationships in the book only add to the tension and uncertainity. There is even a struggle when reading the book: do you want to start caring for the characters knowing that the likelihood of them living is slim to none? Or do you keep yourself at a distance from the characters? Love goes more than one way with this book.
