I just wanted to announce our new podcast.
Future podcasts will feature storytimes for children as read by some of youth services librarians.
But since April is National Poetry Month we thought we’d kick things
off with a reading of the classic by Edgar Allen Poe, The Raven. The Raven, is probably Poe’s best known work and is so well-known its been parodied on the Simpsons and even has a professional football team named after it in Poe’s hometown of Baltimore.
My apologies to Poe for the awkward moments in my attempt at reading his dark and harrowing tale. If you listen closely, you might even hear my dog barking. The sound level is also a little low too but hey, we’re new at this!
For a more dramatic reading (and it’s really dramatic), theres a very creepy version by Christopher Walken you can find on YouTube that only Walken could pull off.
The Raven was originally published in 1845 and is in the public domain.
